Match Preview: AFC Fylde Women v Wolves Women

AFC Fylde Women are set to return to Kellamergh Park on Sunday for their league meeting with Wolves Women.

Weather permitting, this home match is scheduled for Sunday 25th February, with kick-off at 2.00 pm. However, a pitch inspection will be held at Kellamergh Park on Saturday ahead of Sunday’s clash following a period of heavy rainfall in recent days.

The Coasters have not played over the past fortnight after back-to-back postponements. To begin with, last Sunday’s planned visit to Stoke City Women was called off due to a waterlogged pitch at Emerys Stadium in Norton.

Subsequently, Fylde’s trip to Burnley Women also fell victim to the weather this past Wednesday after the pitch was deemed unplayable at the Lancashire FA County Ground in Leyland. Rearranged dates for both fixtures will be announced in due course.

In the absence of competitive action, Fylde’s Joint Managers Jake Williams and Steve Mainwaring have been fully focused on their preparations for their next assignment against Dan McNamara’s high-flying Wolves side.

When the two sides previously met at the end of September, the Coasters continued their difficult start to the season with a heavy 5-0 defeat at New Bucks Head in Telford.

On that afternoon, Wolves opened up a commanding lead in the first half with goals from Tammi George, Beth Merrick, and Destiney Toussaint, who bagged a hat-trick. The hosts inflicted the damage in the opening 45 minutes, but the Coasters gave a better account of themselves in the second half and battled right until the final whistle.

As the two teams look ahead to the return fixture this Sunday, the Coasters know that they will have to be at their best to pick up a positive result. As usual, match updates will be provided on our social media channels.
